Helen Townsley, MBACP (Accred)Psychotherapist and Counsellor for Eating Disorders
I have extensive experience in psychotherapy and counselling for eating disorders. I have worked in private practice for many years working solely with clients on their eating and body image issues. I have devised and collated a variety of psychological tools and techniques to offer the greatest and quickest benefit to you and your struggles with eating disorders.
I understand that starting therapy can be daunting. My approach is friendly and welcoming and I will help you feel settled and relaxed. I will motivate you and support you all the way through the process towards a healthier attitude to food.
Call me to discuss the most appropriate support for your needs.
I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I have an integrative style of therapy, which means I draw on many different approaches to tailor the therapy to your needs and goals.
You may feel ashamed, depressed and anxious, as well as feeling physically unhealthy. You many have hidden your eating disorder from others and psychotherapy may be the first time you share your experience with anyone.
You may have a very complex relationship with food. By gaining a deeper understanding of your issues you can set your self free from the obsessive thoughts of food and work towards maintaining a healthy weight. Through regular therapy I can help you to identify links from your eating behaviour back to your feelings. By understanding these links you can start to make lifelong changes.
Making sense of your eating is often the first step to eating more healthily. Although my therapy is specialised around your eating, you are welcome, indeed encouraged, to bring any issues to your sessions.
My approach combines emotional exploration with some practical help to support your therapy, in the form of worksheets and experimental tasks.
