Therapy with me
I have an integrative style of therapy, which means I draw on many different approaches to tailor the therapy to your needs and goals. I have a friendly style and will help you to feel comfortable and relaxed during our time together. I will encourage you to become more self aware and teach you how to analyse your feelings and behaviours.
A typical session will include a catch up on the previous week, some detailed emotional exploration and then teaching of practical techniques for you to practice during the week. These may include completing worksheets or experimenting with some different routines or behaviours. Therapy will be based around eating behaviours, however you will be encouraged to bring any issues that you are experiencing to the session.
Clients often feel ashamed, depressed and anxious, as well as feeling physically unhealthy. Many have hidden their eating behaviour from others and psychotherapy may be the first time they have shared their experience with anyone.
If you have a complex relationship with food, by gaining a deeper understanding of your issues you can quieten the obsessive thoughts of food and work towards maintaining healthy nutrition and body weight. Through regular therapy, I will help you to identify links between your eating behaviour and your feelings. By understanding these links you can start to make lifelong changes.
